These handwoven silk scarves are made from 100% silk thread imported from China. The warp is a natural ivory color and the colored scarves are woven with a hand dyed weft. There are variations in the color of the hand dyed thread. There are 60 threads in every inch both in the warp and weft. To weave each scarf I threw the shuttle over 3,500 times.

Each of these silk scarves were woven using designs from a pattern book published in Germany in 1677. Marx Ziegler's, "Weber Kunst und Bild Buch - The Weavers-Art and Tie-up Book", is the first known book published on weaving. Until it's publication the Weaving Guilds guarded the secrets of their trade closely and I am sure many weavers were not happy to see those secrets written in a book for all to see.
